Health & Wellness On The Road
We all know safe driving is important, but you should also remember to take care of your health through good diet and exercise. How can you do that when you're on the road all day? Let's be honest, most times the quick food options available to you will be expensive and less than healthy. And it's not practical to stop and work out at the local gym when you are traveling.
- Invest in a good cooler or refrigerator! Carrots, apples, snow peas and grapes make easy, long lasting snacks. Granola, nuts or trail mix can also be healthy alternatives.
- Examine your food choices and make a conscious effort to eat better. It is not always practical, but when you have the opportunity, stop at a grocery store along the way. Most will have cold sandwich or salad options next to their deli and more often than not they are less expensive than what you'll find at a truck stop, fast food restaurant, or diner.
- Drink plenty of water. Good old fashioned water can wake up the body after a night's rest! It can also help your body release toxins that build up, like the ones that come from sitting in one position for too long.
- Try to get your heart rate up when you make stops. Consider taking a short walk. Do some jumping jacks, stretch, run in place, turn on an up beat song and dance it out, but get moving. Devote 20 to 30 minutes to exercise each day and you will be amazed at how much more productive you'll become. You will feel better and stay more alert to the hazards of the road.
- You're mental health is also important. Take a few minutes to meditate, call your friends and loved ones, take a fun picture, and spread some random kindness.
